Ethan Spears: Big Man on Campus

By Sean Bickerton | February 10, 2001Email Article
Best-known as the face of CK Jeans, 23-year-old Ethan Spears is a towering presence on the international modeling scene, his powerfully exotic looks distilling a rich ethnic heritage of English, Swedish, German, Mexican and American Indian ancestors.

First booked by Bruce Weber for an A&F catalogue shoot just over a year ago, Ethan has worked with photographers like Weber, Steven Klein, Richard Phibbs, Steve Hyatt, and Peter Lindbergh ever since. And aside from his campaigns for CK Jeans and Robert Cavali, Ethan Spears is also a well-established runway star, appearing in eight shows alone this last New York season.

So, Ethan, what's your sign and where did you grow up?

I'm a Capricorn, and I was born and raised in Las Vegas. I live in Brooklyn, NY now though

What was school like for you?

Bascially, when I was young I didn't work well in the school system the way it was structured. For a long time I thought I was the problem, when in fact I just didn't do well in that environment.

Did you participate in any sports or other school activities?

No, by the time I was fifteen, I decided I was done with school and started working in construction. I went to night school, but when they told me it was going to take three more years to graduate I decided to take my GED and joined the union.
