New to modeling at 22, Matt Janke placed Second in the International Model of the Year competition this past Fall, as well as winning the title of Sexiest Bachelor in New York in the Sexiest Bachelor in America Contest, broadcast live last month on Fox TV.
A graduate of Springfield College with a Bachelor in Applied Exercise Science, Matt has been photographed by Bruce Weber, Steven Klein, Michael Thompson, Terry Richardson and Richard Phibbs (in the company of Elle McPherson no less), for such august publications as Cosmopolitan, Interview, Talk, Vanity Fair, Maxim and Men's Health Magazines.
Are you still working out as much now that you're making this transition from athlete to model?
When I first got into modeling my agent told me I had to really lean out, so I worked really hard to lose nearly thirty pounds of muscle. Now that I've leaned out, I'm about 185 pounds and I'm just trying to stay more cut and less bulky. I've always been very health conscious, into my body, working out all the time, so even though my routine's changed I've basically continued doing what I enjoy.

When you go in to discuss possible work with your agency, will they actually say they've got a job for you, but you have to lose 5 pounds first?
It's not so much that, as it is the client wanting a certain look. For instance I had a request for Calvin Klein. They liked my look, but my arms were too big and they wanted to know how long it would take to slim down my arms.
What's your workout routine?
My routine changes a lot. Some-times I have to get more cut, either to fit the clothes or just to get my face more sculpted and bring out the cheekbones a little more. Right now I train with heavy weights two or three days a week, keeping repetitions high, and I work every set to muscular failure. I also do a fifteen-minute abdominal session several times a day, six or seven days a week, involving crunches and leg-raises.
