We interviewed Taber on July 21, his 25th birthday. During the interview his agent came in with the latest copy of L'Uomo Vogue which featured Taber in a twelve-page editorial spread shot by Mario Testino. In addition to Testino, Taber has also shot with Steven Meisel, Michael Janssen, Peter Lindbergh and Patrick deMarchelier among other top photographers. Always a high fashion favorite, the shows he does, like the campaigns, are for top designers: Gucci, Versace, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Byblos, Dolce & Gabana and Moschino.
Taber grew up in the mountains near Provo, UT, spending every available moment hiking, skiing and snowboarding. Later in Idaho he became a star soccer player for his school. "I did the whole experience in Idaho, hunting, 4-wheeling and getting dirty on motorcycles, shooting cans, an ideal experience for a boy." After a sports injury prevented him from taking advantage of a soccer scholarship to college, Taber went to work for his father, a film director in Hollywood.
How did you get discovered?
One of the movies I worked on for my dad starred Molly Ringwald, who was a big success as a model before she shot the John Hughes movies. One day while we were all waiting around she asked me what I wanted to do with my life, and when I told her I was interested in acting she suggested I try modeling first.
Later that week she arranged to have some pictures taken with different members of the cast, and without telling me showed my picture to her old modeling agent. A month later I got a call from Molly, and she was ecstatic, yelling "We did it, we did it, you're going to make $200,000 a year! I took your picture to my agent and they want you to come out to New York and they already have you on hold for Calvin Klein."
